Indigenous peoples make up 5-6% of the world’s population and their homelands and territories contain 80% of the world’s biodiversity.

And yet, too often, their voices are ignored and the solutions they have developed and applied in their daily lives for safeguarding ecosystems and living with respect for nature are judged to be uneconomical.

We cannot afford to ignore and misjudge Indigenous peoples any longer: We should look to them, their heritage, and traditional knowledge in order to understand how to live in partnership with Mother Earth, see ourselves as a part of nature, and address climate change and the other dire challenges facing our planet.

This session, organized by the Slow Food Indigenous Peoples’ Network, will serve as the closing event for the network’s participation in Terra Madre 2024. Delegates and partners, including IFAD and IPAF, will highlight key topics discussed during the event.

This event is free and open to all who are interested. To participate, please book a spot on the website (just click on the “Register” button on the event page and leave your email address). We recommend arriving at the Arena 10 minutes before the start of the event. The organizers reserve the right to reassign your seat if you are not present within 5 minutes of the start.

Terra Madre Salone del Gusto is presented by Slow Food, the City of Turin, and the Piedmont Region. We look forward to seeing you at Parco Dora in Turin from Thursday, September 26 – Monday, September 30. Through food, we can rediscover ourselves as part of nature. #TerraMadre2024
