The Presidia are among Slow Food’s longest running and best-known projects. There are now approximately 600 of them in 70 countries around the world, involving thousands of farmers, artisans, fishers, winemakers, and other producers committed to protecting biodiversity.

For the continuing success of the Presidia project, it is essential to monitor its progress and sustainability. An important study launched in 2024 with the support of Berlucchi and in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Food Sciences (DISAFA) at the University of Turin and Department of Architecture at the University of Palermo aims to describe the evolution of the Presidia in terms of the project’s sociocultural, agri-environmental, and economic sustainability.

Forty-four Presidia in the vegetable and dairy supply chains were involved in the first phase of the study, in which producers and other Presidia representatives completed questionnaires to share information about their work, farms, and companies. We will present the results of this first phase of the study at Terra Madre 2024.

Introducing the conference will be Serena Milano, director of Slow Food Italia.

Panelists:

  • Cristiana Peano from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Food Sciences (DISAFA) at the University of Turin.
  • Francesco Sottile from the University of Palermo, and a member of the Slow Food International Board of Directors.

We will also hear from some of the Presidia producers involved in the study.

This event is free and open to all who are interested. To participate, please book a spot on the website (just click on the “Register” button on the event page and leave your email address). We recommend arriving at the Arena 10 minutes before the start of the event. The organizers reserve the right to reassign your seat if you are not present within 5 minutes of the start.

Terra Madre Salone del Gusto is presented by Slow Food, the City of Turin, and the Piedmont Region. We look forward to seeing you at Parco Dora in Turin from Thursday, September 26 – Monday, September 30. Through food, we can rediscover ourselves as part of nature. #TerraMadre2024
