Many of the most biodiverse regions of the planet are in the homelands and traditional territories of Indigenous peoples and local, small-scale communities.

But policymakers continue to ignore the rights, ancestral knowledge, and voices of Indigenous peoples when making decisions about how to deal with the climate crisis, even though these decisions have direct impacts on Indigenous communities’ lands and resources.

Being on the side of nature requires respecting the rights of Indigenous peoples. It means recognizing communities’ rights to control their own food systems in accordance with their culture and identity, using local seeds and agroecological practices. It means abandoning the status quo, which is abusive, and which has failed to deliver solutions. In this conference, representatives of Indigenous communities will share their perspectives on human rights and demonstrate that their cultures and food systems contain the tools to address the challenges of climate change.

The panel of speakers will be published soon.
