At Terra Madre 2024, we remember Joannah Stutchbury, the environmentalist and activist who committed years of her life to protecting Kenya’s forests and was killed for her efforts in defense of nature.

Dedicated to Joannah’s memory and all that she stood for, one of the Arenas at this year’s event will provide a space for exchanges and dialogues centered on nature.

This conference is an occasion for Indigenous peoples to make their voices heard, and for all of us to listen. The homelands and traditional territories of Indigenous peoples harbor 80% of the planet’s biodiversity because Indigenous communities show respect for nature and the abundance of life, putting concrete solutions for ecosystem protection into practice on a daily basis. We resolutely reaffirm the value of Indigenous traditions and cultures.

What can we learn from the experiences of Indigenous peoples? How can we draw inspiration from their examples? In this conference, representatives of Indigenous communities gather to ask for protection and guidance from their ancestors and to discuss fundamental issues.

Also in attendance will be representatives of IFAD (the International Fund for Agricultural Development), a longtime strategic partner to the Slow Food Indigenous Peoples’ Network.

This event is free and open to all who are interested. To participate, please book a spot on the website (just click on the “Register” button on the event page and leave your email address). We recommend arriving at the Arena 10 minutes before the start of the event. The organizers reserve the right to reassign your seat if you are not present within 5 minutes of the start.

Terra Madre Salone del Gusto is presented by Slow Food, the City of Turin, and the Piedmont Region. We look forward to seeing you at Parco Dora in Turin from Thursday, September 26 – Monday, September 30. Through food, we can rediscover ourselves as part of nature. #TerraMadre2024.
