For the sake of animals, the environment, and human health, we must make fundamental changes to livestock systems. The market itself is telling us as much: meat consumption is decreasing, especially among young people.

Creating a viable alternative will be difficult, because the costs of raw materials are high, and the race to the bottom to remain competitive puts conscientious producers at a disadvantage.

How can we transition to an ethical, environmentally sound model? In this conference, we’ll address this question with producers and breeders who have changed course. We’ll learn, for example, about how pig farmers and pork butchers in Emilia-Romagna are working to improve animal welfare in collaboration with Compassion in World Farming (CIWF).
